Your boy is beautiful!!!!
How long have you had him? How old is he?
I see from one of your pics that you do dressage - how cool! I love to watch dressage but fear that my Mojo will never be any good at that......she has a tendancy to forget that she has 4 feet! LOL! Ah well, trail riding is fun too.....she never trips there....maybe she's telling me something? LOL!
Oh......and welcome to the board!!

Thanks all, it takes Std lovers to appreciate that head. I can't tell you the number of times people have felt the need to make rude comments about the length of his face and ears. He is brave and kind and they are silly and ignorant. Yes, we do dressage at training level. A few years ago I was pushing to make 1st level, but backed off because collection "disrupts" his gaits and he started to give a lateral canter. When he was learning to jump the trainer told me she usually starts all the horses at the trot and then move to cnater, but he would get confused with where to place his feet when pushing off over a jump. So she moved right into canter rails and cantering small X's. He doesn't get excited and rush so there has never been a problem with that. This breed of horse is so stoic and solid. They really are the best kept secret of the racing world. Thanks for sharing pix of your "kids"!

Oops, mojo I forgot the info. He will be 18 this coming February (2009). I've had him since he was 4. I first saw him as a 2 yo and begged my friend to sell him to me, but she was on the fence about still racing so I didn't get him until 2 years later. He was untrained and barely halter broke. I took him to a "cowboy" trainer that I know and within the week the guy was riding Goose in the arena without a bridle. He really liked Goose and said not only does he have a great mind, Goose is one of the nicest horses he has ever trained. He said that in starting him, Goose had knowledge of where his feet were all the time and there was never any difficulty in balance. (and of course that made me beam like a mother with an "A" student. After a month with the cowboy we then went into my trainers hunter barn for 2 months of basic riding and to start over fences. After that it's just been he and I going to clinics. We've done lots of trail miles too. I'll save those stories for later. Thanks again for all the lovely replies, I think he's beautiful and it's nice to hear others say that too!!!!

Grand what a fabulous story. You both are very welcome here and it is nice to see more and more people wanting the breed and realising they are versatile all around horses and can become anything we want them to be.
