I'm pretty new to the Standardbred world and happy to have found this forum where I can share my love for this breed with others.
We bought Truce in September last year as a 6 year old. After a successful career on the track he is now in training for his new life as a trail/pleasure horse with us.
I also have a Standardbred/Arab cross mare with the name MyLady. She is 7 years old, 15.2hh and a palomino and also mother to my sorrel filly Willow. She was born on my birthday in May 07!
We also have a dark bay gelding named Timber. He's a 13 year old, 15.2hh TB/QH cross and my "horse for every occasion". I'm not competing in anything, but for pleasure he's good at jumping (3'), roping, penning, trails & If I'd let him, he would be good at racing too ;D
And then there is SunnyBoy. He is my hubby's 7 year old, 15hh, paint gelding. Mostly sorrel with a bald face and a white tummy. He's our horse everyone can ride. The perfect "husband-horse"
We bought Truce in the first place for my husbands 15 year old son as he started showing interest in riding with us. Well, at 6'2, he looked a bit funny on SunnyBoy so we decided to keep an eye open for a horse 16hh+.
Through a friend of mine I got to know more about Standardbreds as she and her husband are breeding/racing STB's. She made the connection between us and the organization that places Standardbred that are done with their racing career.
So last fall we meet Truce. He's 16.2 and more of a WB build - very solid bone & rather "heavy" built. He has the disposition of a Teddy bear and everyone that gets to meet him falls in love with him instantly and wants to cuddle him. Especially with all his winter fuzzies... it makes him look so cuddly!
Even tough Truce has never carried a rider before we got him, he was just a sweetheart and calm as can be on our first few rides.
I'm now officially addicted to STB's and would buy another one in a heartbeat - but for now, 5 horses are more than enough and we'll give each one of them all the love we have!
