Wow a whole forum just for Standardbreds!!!!! I am so excited.
I was just on Youtube looking at a wonderful video about debunking standardbred myths and discovered this club.
I can't wait to get to know all of you and share stories and tips.
So about me. My name is Cherie and I live in Western PA. I am a horse trainer, barefoot trimmer, and cook by trades.... still trying to pick one. ;D
My horse is an 11 year old STB mare named Simply Noble. But we call ehr Baby. She was adopted from the New Vocations program at age three by the lady I bought her from.
She raced as a two and three year old until she bowed a tendon wining her last race. At that time her wonderful owners Dianna and Dale put her into the adoption program. I have the good fortune to have gotten to know these people and they have shared with me much about Baby's past life as well as her mother grandma and sibs.
Mostly Baby and I like to trail ride... erm... slide. After all western Pa is know for it's hills. And we do it all barefoot.
I am also owned by two dogs. Merri and Pippin and a cat named Chloe.
So I guess the rest can wait.
For now I think I'll have a look around. Not to worry I have many many pics of Baby for you to enjoy.

Welcome aboard, SF! You and Baby will fit right in around here Can't wait to find the pictures. Standardbreds have some tough feet for sure. My last standardbred I did shoe all fours but she had never developed soles tough enough for gravel. I figured by her age (she made it to 32 and still rode) she deserved the extra help shoes gave her. My current standardbred is 20, and barefoot with her hooves of iron. Her problem is the opposite, her feet are too dry and hard and will crack and chip on the rocky going we do on some of our marathon rides. For normal around the block and neighborhood stuff she goes bare, but for the long tough rides (we recently went camping 3 days in a forrest) she gets old macs on the front and does superbly.

Baby occasionally wears Easyboot Epics. She is good on the local ground but not conditioned for really rocky ground. My first standardbred, Whiskey, had his shoes pulled when he was 26. He was fit and riding until he was 35 and I had to put him down just 6 months later. He was one tough horse. He went down really fast that winter. Ok I'm not seeing any reply box except the quick reply. So I can't post pics yet. I assume due to being a very new member. But I promise there will be pics. You may have seen Baby and I on Horse.com and Johnlyons.com forums. I started one of the biggest breed discussion thread on the horse.com forum all about standardbreds. Over 2k hits and 500 posts. It does a while back though after two steady years. I'll have to let some of them over there know about this board.

Cool about the breed topic. Do link to it please To do a normal reply with featurs, look at the red area at the bottom of the thread. It starts with Search on the left, and has reply over on the right. It's just not in an obvious location for some reason

Yeah that's the problem. I don't host my pics on line.
I think I might have some up on Shuterfly but I generally upload them to the forums. I do know how to inset image though so I'll see what I can do.

Sorry. I can try but dealing with admin over there is sometimes a pain in the rear.
What user name did you have over there? Might get help from the mods.
