Hi from NB

My name is Michelle and I live in Oromocto area. It's been 16 years since I've owned a horse and probably between 10-12 years since I've ridden a horse. So in the spring I decided that it is time to get involved with horses again. I started checking the ads on Kijiji, Atlantic Rider, and whatever horse classifieds I could find. I even called the vet to see if they knew of any that needed homes. I went to see a couple of horses, one of which a 14 yr old Stb and another a 3 yr old Appendix QH. Well anyway to make a long story short, a friend of mine told me about a STB gelding needing a home so I went to see him and I fell for him right away. So I called up the place where I would be boarding and told her to get ready I finally found a horse. The last couple of months we've spent some time getting to know each other and doing some ground work. Last week was the first time that I got up on his back. He did pretty good, I was so impressed with him. I haven't gotten back up on him since just because the weather has been terrible here....non stop rain. There isn't a riding arena so I'm just using the paddock and it is pretty wet. It's hard to work in it. So slippery.
I think these forums are so great, I found the link from MSA's forum. I love the Standardbred breed. Actually my first horse was a STB/percheron cross mare. She could be a little moody but was still a very nice horse and was my best friend! We learned a lot together. One of my best friends that I grew up with had a STB right from the track. She is still around, she will be 31 in Dec. She looks great for her age too.
I'm looking forward to sharing STB stories.

Is your new guy broke to saddle or are you doing it yourself?? Love to hear more about him!

I'm doing the training myself. He's doing quite well. I need to work on mounting and dismounting because he's a little nervous when I go to get off and my leg touches his bum. I wish I had an indoor arena to work in because it's been so wet lately. It'll come, I'm in no rush. My goal is to have him ready trail ride by late spring. He seems to enjoy our training sessions. He is a little bored.

Also Gissy, I was just wondering if you know of anything about the Can Am Equine Review that is being held in Fton in May. I would like to participate in it. There is also something going on called "January Thaw" it is on Jan 24th but there isn't really enough time to get anything ready. I just found out about it.

We do the one in Sussex- Equine Review - Hannah did it with us last year and this year we are going to book more stalls and bring in more STBS.
Maybe we could discuss for May - June I think it is. Hannah I am sure would trailer your horse as she is out that way.
I pay trailering for my horses as I have no trailer.

There are stall fees for the horses and you can stay the night in a tent or what not.......

We had a blast last year....It was fun....We need more STBS there though.
