Good Day, all, Just a quick note to introduce myself. My screen name is BigBay and I live in swNH with my husband, dog, cat, two goats, and a retired 9yo 17.1hh bay STB pacer named Sweet MacGregor. He was only on the track a year or two before being deemed 'too slow' and was sold as a pleasure driving prospect. I bought Mac a year ago as a milestone-birthday gift to myself. I'm a member of our state SPHO and local trail riding group. We are having a blast together learning new things. When I got him, he'd only ever driven and ridden on the bit so he's definitely a work in progress. (Yesterday, working off my seat and leg, he got me close enough to a hanging rope gate to get it off the hook from the saddle. Good boy!) I joined this group to stay in touch with other STB owners and to share and gain information, especially with regard to training tips. Right now he's all pokey walk, unsustained rack, and HUGE duck-paddle trot. Worse, he has started jigging when we turn to come home which he NEVER did last year. Anyway, he is not what one would call a comfortable trail riding horse. Yet. My goal is to have Mac muscled up, under himself and hopefully cantering under saddle by this fall. He has a lovely canter....in the field. It's been very wet here in northern New England and terrible riding - it's been the longest Mud Season I can recall. Looking for brighter drier days to arrive soon, Ann Attachments:

Welcome to the board! Your horse is lovely! and we all look forward to hearing about his progress. it does take time to slow that duckish trot down for sure, I still deal with it with my guy but once they figure it out, they really get it. Have fun with him! Even though it sounds like you already do.
