Hi
I have two stbs, I am very familiar with the breed, as I have raced for over 20 years. I first came in contact with them in lessons, as a rider, and then bought a few to teach lessons on, then met my husband a stb trainer/driver, who had worked with this horses at that time for some 25 years. I race until 1998, then sued the racing commission in Ontario. We left for about 10 years, then I wanted to ride again. My husband agreed after a time, asked me what type of horse I wanted expecting me to say a GWB, a TB or some other 'normal' type of horse for Eventing-- part of him thought I might say stb, but after 20 years at that time of marriage he wasn't sure what I would say . For me stbs were the only choice, I was hooked after having these horses prove over and over to me just how amazing they are, so we went to the Forest City Sale and bought Che. Tiocfaidh Ar La, is now a 4 year old Rustler Hanover stallion, by Puccini Blue Chip who is a full sister to Gallo Blue Chip richest pacer of all time. He is awesome and my pride and joy. He is my forever horse, tough, couragous, difficult, easy, arrogant, kind, mean, grumppy, he is all of this and then some, and afraid of nothing would sum him up. We are still working on getting him to the track, and then after this he will be a full time eventer whether he makes it or not as a race horse. He has had a tough go, and daily we struggle to keep him going, as he has severe stomach issues which is why he still hasn't raced. He has action as a ridding horse that sets him apart, is smooth as silk, and has a head carriage that makes me grin everytime I ride him. At 16.2 and half, and about 1200 lbs, he is a big fella. He loves to jump (in hand only so far) and will fight to jump more than I will allow if given the chance. There is nothing that he will acomplish that I would be surpirsed at, he is beautiful (not becoming to brag-- but he really is), and we have had people ask about breeding to him even though he has no race mark, and has never raced. We have said no, as he isn't studdy, and we don't want him to be tht way if I can help it.
Tattoo (Da Plane Boss) was bought to keep Che company, and to hopefully pay the way for the two horses. He is a sweet horse, that was nearly dead when we bought him (for more than he was worth at the time), he was emaciated, and has seen more than his share of abuse and neglect. We took him in as he needed us, more than we needed or could afford him really. He was so thin when I first met him he was little more than a skelleton, he would not drink water, was a tie up horse, and was being raced anyway, he has the heart of a lion. He is 15.3 and half, and weighs about 800 lbs now, better than the 500 lbs he did weigh in at. I never thought I would make a show horse of him, to look at him he has conformation flaws, but when he is in action, he is awesome and overcomes whether that is in the race bike, or under saddle. He can jump like a deer, and has a natural grace and carriage that would make GWB's wish they could be like him. He is the little surprise package that no one wanted, but will do big things as time goes on.
Anyway, that is my story, and my two boys. Che the big fella, and Tattoo the little fella. Both horses proove daily that the stb breed is above all others, and whether that is in harness or under saddle, stbs rock!
While these too are supposed to be race horses, they are also supposed to be show horses, so I think that since they are 'unharness' horses at least part of the time they deserve to be on this site.
