I guess I will introduce myself, my name is Janie and my husband and I own a Standardbred name HYAKUTAKE KID , we have owned him for 3 years now and his barn name is Ben which has been changed a few times and has at least had 6 homes including the orginal home who raced him and us. Ben or aka Kid has won around $47,47,802 in his racing career. We are hoping to see if we can't find pics of him racing even though we may get in touch with the orginal owners, but seeing if we can't find pics on our own first. Ben is mainly my husbands horse to ride for trail riding and a buddy to my Canadian Cross who I ride/train and show. Ben is a love bug and here is a few pics of Ben, Ben is the Bay. These pics are from 2010 at another barn we use to board at, but they are nice pics.

If he was mine I would have changed his name to Ben too. I just bought a STB. Wow! That's awful close to STD. My horse's name is Bart and he is a pacer. You know that pretty, refined head that Ben has? Bart hasn't got it. When I first saw him I thought, Wow! look at that head, being more accustomed to the Qtr. horse head. But then it grew on me. Now I think it is quite noble. He hasn't got a roman nose just more of a long face. It doesn't help that he often has a concerned look in his eye. The woman I bought him from said she was told that he hadn't raced. She was also told that the pin firing on his left cannon was a freeze brand. He raced. he was a cheap horse and I didn't pay to have him vetted. It was a 300 mile haul from Central Calif. to K. Falls, Oregon. I had stopped a couple of times to exercise him and give him a drink but when he got out of the trailer at home both of his stifle joints were popping and he was lame as a duck on a side-hill in back. I buteted him for a couple of days and reshod him. The soreness came and went for a while. We have had him for six or eight weeks now and he is sound but I have been babying him. I did make the mistake of putting him in the arena one day and popping the longe whip to get him moving. This horse could put a thoroughbred to shame. He ripped around the arena full speed doing sliding stops right up to the gate, rolling back over his hocks and charging off to repeat the maneuver. I was afraid he was going to crash the gate and got in front of it to ward him off. Who says Std's can't run? Scary. However, Bart is a kitten under saddle, content to walk at a nice pace without breaking gait. I was surprised that his mouth is soft and that he bends so well. He didn't know how to stop worth a darn and his head carriage was giraffe like. It only took me a few days to have him stretching his neck and he is stopping on voice command now. I put a ground pole down and it took me a few days to get him lunging over it at the trot. Now he gives one little hop and picks up the trot automatically. Under saddle and on the cart it's a different story. He still wants to pace. It will take some time. He is a big puppy dog and follows us around in his paddock wanting to be rubbed. I think he is going to be the perfect horse for my wife who is an older, novice rider. We have really become attached to the big, kind lug.
